New Release!

Hello everyone.
I wanted to pop in and tell you about my newest dystopian novel. The Benevolent Slayers is a bit of a western style fantasy that brings you to a future that is bleak for humankind. After a nuclear war that crippled our numbers and obliterated modern civilization, monsters and magical creatures run rampant. Here is the summary:

They are called Benevolent Slayers, though the name no longer holds the honor it once did. Those that take up the mantle travel the lands, defeating monsters and bandits that prey on the few surviving humans left after an ancient war destroyed their world.

Saber is a swordsman with powerful majiks. This sorceress may be tough, but her inner demons make her powers hard to control. She finds herself in debt to another Slayer, Brock the Rock, a man famous for his heroic deeds.

Terrifying and cold, Brock is a loner who has seen too much death to care about humanity anymore. He does the job because killing is all he knows. Though neither is thrilled by the arrangement, they decide to travel together and embark on an adventure that proves both tragic and enlightening.

Can Saber learn to let go of her past before it destroys her? Will she be able to harness the true power she holds within?
Will the mysterious Brock ever let his guard down enough to regain his humanity?

This story has a bit of everything I love in a good fantasy: swordplay, majik, fantastical creatures, a touch of romance, archery, detailed fight scenes, and characters that deal with their own inner struggles. The Benevolent Slayers is the first book in a new series I'm working on titled The Immortal Legacy.
Check it out for some dark fantasy fun!

Amazing Things to Come!

Magical things are coming your way! Well, magical and science fiction-y. I will soon be publishing another book of short stories. These stories will contain fantasy or sci-fi elements, or sometimes both blended together. This will be my tenth published work and I am excited to bring these tales to life in the pages of a new book. Here is a teaser with a little sneak peek into "Four Items," a tale in Cyborgs and Sorcery:

Also coming your way early this year is an erotic thriller set in the 1930s. The Blood Files: The Case of Arnus Mortem is the first of a trilogy of horrific short stories co-written by myself and the wonderful B.J. Taylor.

Vampires running loose in San Francisco? Who better to investigate than a pair of P.I.'s? When Randall and Penny are given a missing person's case, they don't realize the true monsters behind what's going on are no mere mortals. Soon, they find out just how far the vampires and their minions will go to wreak havoc and destruction on the city. Can two humans save the day or will America be overrun with the undead?

I hope you are ready for some thrills and chills this year, friends. More amazing things to come!

July Reads & Reviews

Hello everyone!
Tis I, your indie author and avid reader, Marie! Last month I read lots of books and four of those were by indie authors. Let me share those books, and my reviews, with you guys so you can update your reading list with some goodies.

Fight
by K. L. Cottrell

Rating: 5 Stars

Review:
Each book of this series just keeps getting better! We get to know these characters so intimately, so completely, that they become absolutely real. I laughed with them, cried with them, and triumphed with them. This series has possessed me now and I can't wait to read the final book!

Angel Within
by Julie Nicholls

Rating: 5 Stars

Review:
An amazing sequel to Demon Within! New friendships and new enemies. Love, betrayal, heartache. And some steamy sex scenes too! This beautifully written tale of friendship, loyalty, and the lengths one will go to protect those you love is my new favorite of Julie's.

Norma Jean's School of Witchery: Book Two: Ghost School
by Rose Montague

Rating: 5 Stars

Review:
Another exciting adventure of Jewel the witch! Things become more complicated and the action is non-stop in this sequel to the first addictive book of the Norma Jean's School of Witchery series. Though very few scenes actually take place in the school, following Jewel as she becomes more powerful and endures new quests is more entertaining than ever. I had a hard time putting it down and can't wait for the third book!

The Promise
by C. E. Wilson

Rating: 5 Stars

Review:
This is the most beautiful, most tragic story that brought me to tears over and over again. Once I started reading this tale of Lily and her shrinking situation, I just couldn't stop. Sometimes loving someone just isn't enough and though letting them go is painful, it can be for the best. It's a hard lesson to learn for Erik and Lily but one that leads to happiness later on.

Rarely do I give so many five star reviews in one month but these books were fabulous reads! I also read some more volumes of the Kamisama Hajimemashita manga, Batman: The Killing Joke, and a few of those side Harry Potter books: The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Quidditch Through the Ages, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I had to get myself ready for the new Harry Potter book, after all!
Happy reading, everyone.

Books, Books, Books!

I have so much reading to catch up on that it's ridiculous!
My kindle app is full, I have a real Kindle sitting collecting dust, I have some downloaded books on my computer, and then there are the paperbacks double stacked on my bookshelf. There is just not enough time in the day for reading!

I'm going to go back one month and post some reviews that I gave for what books I have been able to knock off my TBR. Some I enjoyed immensely, some, not so much. I give honest reviews but I try not to be a douche canoe about it.

I finished The Sandman Volume Five on October 19th. I gave it five stars because, well, awesome! I have to say that though every book in this series isn't gold, I am loving it so far as a whole. Can't wait to read the next one. (Which will be soon.) I don't tend to give reviews to "trade" books unless it was so phenomenal that I fan-girl screamed.

Cloak of Shadows
by C.K. Dawn

Rating: 5 Stars

Review:
What an exciting and well-written story!
I love that the world was introduced slowly; the scenery and characters fleshed out with such detail. Creating such relatable characters made their successes and failures truly resonate. The secret, magical world they were a part of was introduced piece by piece. The author is a master of giving the reader action and romance all while keeping them intrigued by the mysteries of how this secret society worked and each character's place in it.
Wonderful read! Highly recommended!

Norma Jean's School of Witchery Book One: Jewel
by Rose Montague

Rating: 5 Stars

Review:
A suspenseful, action packed tale!
This book follows the young witch Jewel and her exciting adventures as she enters a new school, makes new friends, and deals with assassination attempts, a budding romance, and loss. Finding out you have rare witch powers is hard enough but having to learn to utilize them to save your friend's lives is a hell of a way to spend your school year!
Fast paced and fun, this book was a great YA read I would recommend to any lover of fantasy.
Having read this wonderful book, I now have to read Jade, Jane and the next installment of this series!

Cowboy Command
by Olivia Jaymes

An exciting romance full of action, drama and hot sex scenes! A great read!

Ink Inspired
by Carrie Ann Ryan

Rating: 4 Stars

Review:
A short, sweet read featuring a sexy, tattooed hunk. What's not to love?

Jaded (3 Book Series)
by Ali Parker

Rating: Overall, 4 Stars

Review:
(Book 1) A great introduction to Kari and her friends. I enjoyed how the story played out slowly, really letting you get to know the characters intimately. Great read!
(Book 2)  Not as detailed as the first book but a good introduction to Jake and his own heartbreak. We immediately see the sparks between Jake and Kari but they do seem to be taking it a bit fast for two individuals who have been hurt by loved ones, especially since he never let his wounds heal and hers are still so fresh.
(Book 3) Not the best installment of this series but good nonetheless. This last book feels a bit more rushed than the previous two. Kari still has serious trust issues and because of that, I feel like they should slow down a bit. If she doubts him as soon as he leaves town, how will they ever have a meaningful relationship?

That's all I've managed to finish since this time last month. I hope that over the holidays I can relax and snuggle down with some more books. As much as I love to write, I need my reading time too!
